New Studio Space

The first photo I took after moving all my supplies out and lining them up, ready for action!

Something wonderful has happened to me.

After a few weeks of cleaning and some selfless labor from my dear husband, I have created AN ART STUDIO in my garage!

He even built me a gorgeous long table to store my supplies while I work.

The light on the ceiling provides enough light to sketch with, but not enough to see colors accurately. So I’ve nixed my early-morning painting practice (you won’t hear any regrets from me about that!) and I simply open the garage door right before laying my one-year-old down for her afternoon nap. I put my four-year-old down for quiet time, and I have a very peaceful two hours to myself each afternoon out in this space, with fantastic natural light.

Abby always joins me for painting time after her clock beeps.

Better yet, it’s spring in Texas, which means Warm Without Bugs season is in full swing. Temperatures are 70-80 degrees and I have yet to get a single mosquito bite. I’d better soak up every moment of this blissful weather, right?

What a peaceful existence we have. Here I am gessoing a large piece of canvas for a big painting.

The only thing that would make this situation better would be the ability to buy more supplies, like more raw canvas (I AM LOVING RAW UNSTRETCHED CANVAS) or a couple of baby fences to keep Gwen from running down the driveway or accessing the “dangerous corner” with all the leftover garage stuff. Then I could paint all day long!

Socks and birkenstocks if it’s below 75 degrees, bare feet if it’s above 75

I am looking forward to many beautiful, messy, freeing paintings as a result of this space! Oh, sweet freedom. The ability to get messy and paint big is something I have always craved as an artist, and now I finally have it.I pray that I can have the energy to make the very most of it. Though sometimes ice cream and Marvel movies take precedence, as they should. ;)
